UN investigators found signs of genocide in Sudan's RSF assault on El Fasher

Amnesty International's 1 July 2026 report, based on 247 interviews, accuses the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing of the Zaghawa in El Fasher, including the October 2025 assault. On 8 July 2026 the UN fact-finding mission on Sudan said its evidence shows clear indicators of genocide and listed mass killings, mass rape, detention and enforced disappearances, and the Human Rights Council on 6 July approved an urgent investigation into alleged violations in El Obeid. No RSF response is reported in the sources reviewed, and no accountability proceedings are reported.
