11 fans died in Bengaluru's RCB stampede; police reinstated, no one charged 16 months on

01 · What happened

On 4 June 2025, 11 people aged 14 to 29 died in a crush outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebration. A judicial commission led by retired judge John Michael D'Cunha held RCB, its event partner DNA Entertainment Networks, the Karnataka State Cricket Association and Bengaluru police responsible, and the state cabinet accepted the report in July 2025. Karnataka suspended three IPS officers, including the Bengaluru police commissioner, and two policemen, but all suspensions were later revoked. The Karnataka High Court barred the CID from filing a chargesheet while petitions by RCB, KSCA and DNA to quash the FIRs are pending, and in March 2026 the state cleared the stadium to host IPL 2026 matches with no one charged.
