What happened
Lithuania's Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK) unanimously ruled that Jonava District Mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius violated conflict-of-interest law by using municipal funds allocated for council-member activities to buy two television sets and cover personal Telia Lietuva phone bills, dating back to March 2022. The commission opened its probe after a March 2025 referral from the Prosecutor General's Office. Sinkevičius repaid €4,015 to the municipal budget before the ruling and called the spending unintentional human error; a related criminal case had already been dismissed by the Supreme Court, which found the conduct was a violation but not a crime.
