What happened
Falter reported in July 2026 that about ten employees of Vienna's Magistratsabteilung 59 (Market Office) accuse director Andreas Kutheil of insults, sexism, racism and bullying, citing audio recordings, emails and protocols; Falter and Heute say about 20 employees have complained to the city's independent employee-protection office (UBSB), describing a 'climate of fear', including a racist remark at a Christmas party that four witnesses documented. Kutheil resigned 'for personal reasons' with immediate effect on 16 July 2026. The city's Magistratsdirektion ordered an internal audit review and said the presumption of innocence applies; Kutheil had not commented.
