Claremont, N.H. school district's forensic audit of a $5 million deficit is on hold after hired firm agrees to be acquired
Subject of this story
What happened
After the Claremont School District reported a deficit estimated at $5 million in August 2025, the district hired CBIZ Forensic Consulting Group in March 2026 to audit its finances from Jan. 1, 2019 through Dec. 31, 2025, with the board authorizing up to $50,000. The Valley News reported on Sept. 23, 2026 that the audit is on hold and may cover fewer years because CBIZ agreed in July to be acquired by another firm, raising questions about whether the contract is still valid. The superintendent has suggested narrowing the scope to reduce cost. The board chair said the district hired a forensic auditor in part because New Hampshire State Police urged its interim business administrator to and because many residents demanded one.
