Lane County commissioner stays in office after probe found he retaliated against staff

Subject of this story
David Loveall, Lane County Commissioner, District 2 (Springfield)
01 · What happened

An outside investigation by Mountain Lakes Employment Investigations, completed Feb. 1, 2026 and released in condensed form Feb. 10, found Lane County Commissioner David Loveall violated county policy by retaliating against three employees who complained about him, including County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky. Findings cited threats to Mokrohisky's job and an unjustified 1-out-of-5 performance rating. On Feb. 18 the board voted 3-2 to require an apology; Loveall did not give one. On March 3 the board voted 3-1 to censure him, saying his conduct amounted to willful neglect of duty, but the censure removed no duties. Loveall denies the findings, calls the probe politically motivated, and has said he would take legal action against the county. He remains in office.
