What happened
On 9 April 2025, Mauritius's Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) arrested former finance minister Renganaden Padayachy and former Bank of Mauritius governor Harvesh Seegolam in what the commission called the ongoing Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC) case, Central Banking reported; the MIC is a vehicle the Bank of Mauritius created in 2020 to support businesses during Covid-19. Seegolam was reported as arrested for 'fraud by abuse of position'. Business Report reported that Padayachy was later arrested and charged with 'conspiracy to commit fraud' in a second MIC-related matter, citing a prosecution source. These are allegations; no verdict was found in the sources reviewed. The FCC's website says anyone can report a financial crime by phone, in person, by letter or through an online platform, including an anonymous option.
