What happened
On 4 April 2025 Berlin's regional court convicted Dilek Kalayci (SPD), the city-state's former Senator for Health, of bribery (Bestechlichkeit) and gave her a suspended sentence of one year and six months. The court found that an agency organised her wedding celebration, with services worth about EUR 11,200 not invoiced, and later won a nursing-recruitment campaign contract from the health administration she led. The court ordered EUR 6,242 confiscated from Kalayci; the agency's head received a suspended sentence of one year and three months. Kalayci denied any link between the wedding and the contract. Germany's Federal Court of Justice rejected her appeal, a ruling reported on 30 December 2025, so the conviction stands.
