On 21 May 2026 the financial-crimes criminal chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal sentenced Mohamed Moubdii, a former minister and longtime president of the Fkih Ben Salah commune, to 13 years in prison and ordered him to pay 30 million dirhams to the commune, a civil party, per Le Desk. Reports say he was convicted of embezzlement of public funds, corruption, forgery of official documents and abuse of authority, after a complaint by the Casablanca-Settat branch of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Assets. Barlamane reports the contracts at issue included inflated charges such as tree removal billed at 6,000 dirhams per tree. Le Desk says the ruling is a first-instance decision and a defense lawyer said the defense would appeal once notified.
