What happened
On 7 May 2026 the Allahabad High Court ordered status quo on House 39/12, Dalmandi, Varanasi, after the municipal corporation issued a demolition notice in April. The petitioner says the house was demolished on 11 June 2026. Three officials filed affidavits denying responsibility, one stating he was present with police during road-widening work, and one saying the petitioner's portion collapsed on its own. Justice Vikas Budhwar called the position 'paradoxical'; the matter was listed for 22 September 2026.
