What happened
On April 8, 2026, Weston County Clerk Becky Hadlock was arrested on one felony count of violating the election code as an official and one felony count of falsifying election documents, according to WyoFile. A Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation affidavit states she certified zero errors among 75 sampled ballots on the initial post-election audit and that a later audit of the same ballots found 21 errors. The investigation began after Sheriff Brian Colvard asked DCI to look into possible election-law violations; the Natrona County District Attorney is special prosecutor. Hadlock resigned the day after her arrest. Cowboy State Daily reported on May 28, 2026 that prosecutors reduced the two felonies to one misdemeanor election-law violation, to which she pleaded guilty; a circuit judge imposed a $500 fine and $220 in court costs and fees ($720 total), with no jail time or probation.
