What happened
Harshita Brella reported domestic abuse by her husband to Northamptonshire Police in August 2024; he was arrested, bailed with a no-contact condition and a Domestic Violence Protection Order was issued. Police believe she was strangled in Corby on November 10, 2024, and her body was found in a car boot in Ilford on November 14. The Independent Office for Police Conduct opened an investigation on November 20, 2024, and on November 24, 2025 said two detective constables have a case to answer for gross misconduct for allegedly failing to properly review the case, set investigative actions, seek supervisory advice or keep her updated, and that a sergeant and a chief inspector have a misconduct case to answer over supervision and risk assessment. It will be for a police disciplinary panel to decide whether the allegations are proven. A murder charge has been authorised against her husband, who is believed to have left the UK for India.
