Met Police had 21 abuse reports on Al Fayed and he was never charged; 5 officers probed
Mohamed Al Fayed, the former owner of Harrods, was never charged before his death, even though the Metropolitan Police had received 21 allegations against him while he was alive, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). More than 400 allegations of sexual misconduct dating from 1977 to 2014, including rape and trafficking, have since been made against him. In January 2025 the IOPC directed a Met investigation into how officers handled two allegations reported in 2008, to find whether they missed opportunities or failed to investigate properly. By May 2026 one serving and four former Met officers had been served misconduct notices, and in June 2026 three more survivors complained to the IOPC about the Met's handling of reports made between 2018 and 2024. No misconduct finding has been published.
