What happened
The family of Kenneth Durrah filed a federal lawsuit on Aug. 31, 2026 against Campbell County, Sheriff Scott Matheny (in his official capacity) and eight jail employees over Durrah's death in a restraint chair at the Campbell County jail on Dec. 1, 2022. The complaint alleges deliberate indifference to medical needs and excessive force, and alleges the county had not scheduled nurses or medical staff to work nights at the jail. These are the plaintiffs' allegations, not findings. WyoFile has reported that Wyoming has no independent regulatory oversight of county jails.
