What happened
Albania's SPAK anti-corruption prosecution says a villa of 478 square meters in the Green Coast complex in Palase, seized by court order on September 9, 2026, is beneficially owned by Belinda Balluku, then Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, and was registered in the name of former footballer Igli Tare to conceal that. Prosecutors allege the villa was partly financed through construction work by Arber Abazi's company Alko Impex General Construction, which was part of a consortium Balluku allegedly favored in a tender for a lot of Tirana's Outer Ring Road worth about EUR 23 million. She is also suspected of failing to declare the property. Tare is under investigation for money laundering. A villa in Dhermi was seized earlier. Balluku, dismissed by PM Edi Rama on February 26, 2026, denies wrongdoing; Parliament's Socialist majority previously rejected a request to lift her immunity. These are allegations; no court has ruled.
