Grant County commissioner approved county payments to his own sewer firm, probe says
On September 2, 2026, Grant County commissioners voted to send a 30-page internal investigation report on fellow Commissioner Chuck Poling to the Indiana State Police and the FBI. The report, based on interviews with 15 witnesses, says the county used Poling's business, Chuck's Sewer & Drain, almost exclusively for plumbing work, with invoices from February 2025 to June 2026 totaling $56,630, while county maintenance staff did much of the work. It says Poling generally did not abstain from approving those claims, took a county-bought drain machine for his business, did not disclose a real estate LLC, offered an employee a raise to vote for his candidate, and threatened staff. The report lists potential charges including official misconduct and theft. Poling voted against releasing it and declined to comment. No charges have been filed and he remains in office.
Poling voted no on releasing the report and declined to comment at the end of the meeting.
Poling’s company, Chuck’s Sewer and Drain, was used “exclusively” for county-related plumbing and drain work, being paid an estimated $60,000 a year, the report reads.
Invoices produced from February of 2025 through June 5, 2026, show payments of $56,630 and, as Winters described, consistently show general, round-number bills with limited detail.
