Unlicensed quarry slide buried 19 Bosnian villagers; the probe was voided after 17 months
On the night of 3-4 October 2024 flash floods sent mud and rock from a quarry on the hill above Donja Jablanica down onto the village, killing 19 people there and 27 across the region. Days later the Federation prime minister said the cantonal ministry had told him no concession or approval for exploitation was ever issued to the company operating the quarry, and the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton prosecutor's office opened a case. A year on, AP reported the investigation had produced no results, and in March 2026 the earlier proceedings were annulled over 'established procedural irregularities', sending the case back to the start. The Federation's anti-corruption prosecutors (POSKOK) took it over and seized documents from six companies in July 2026; no one has been charged.
