What happened
A February 2026 Florida Auditor General operational audit (Report No. 2026-100) found the Lee County School District issued final orders for four people terminated for sexual misconduct with students but did not report them to the Florida Department of Education's disqualification list within the 48 hours state rules require. One person whose final order was issued August 25, 2025 had still not been reported as of December 2025; the other three were reported 63, 55 and 50 days late. District personnel attributed the lapses to management oversights, and auditors noted neither board policy nor district procedures set a deadline for these reports, leaving other schools without the screening information.
