What happened
Ireland's Ombudsman, in his 2025 annual report published in July 2026, described a Dublin man removed from Dublin City Council's social housing list in 2020 after he did not return a Social Housing Assessment survey form. The council said reminder letters had been sent, but the Ombudsman found no evidence it tried to contact him by email or mobile phone, although it held both details. After the Ombudsman asked it to review the decision, the council reinstated him with his original application date. The same report recorded a record 5,297 public-service complaints in 2025, up 11% on 2024, including 248 about Dublin City Council.
