Keith Higgins, District Attorney, Brunswick Judicial Circuit
01 · What happened

Five counties in Georgia's Brunswick Judicial Circuit (Glynn, Camden, Wayne, Appling and Jeff Davis) commissioned a forensic audit of District Attorney Keith Higgins' office after a roughly $1 million deficit in its 2024 budget. The Baker Tilly report, released in October 2025, found critical internal-control deficiencies, questionable cash withdrawals, and records so disorganized that auditors could not complete much of their work. It flagged possible fraudulent charges by a former office manager, whom the GBI began investigating. Higgins said he referred that matter to law enforcement and stated, "I am the district attorney, and I am not resigning." The counties filed a removal complaint in June 2025; on April 29, 2026, the Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission voted to open a full investigation. Higgins called the process politically motivated. He remains in office.
