Kagoshima police fired an officer over sex with a girl under 16 but never charged him
Japan's Kagoshima Prefectural Police announced in November 2024 that a sergeant at its headquarters had been dismissed for non-consensual intercourse with a girl under 16 in April 2024, but did not open a criminal case because no victim complaint was filed, J-Cast reported. It was one of a run of officer sex offences: a headquarters officer was arrested in October 2023 over a girl under 13; a Makurazaki station sergeant committed more than 80 voyeurism offences over about four years, including while an internal error had paused the probe; and in February 2025 a superintendent was referred to prosecutors over non-consensual intercourse and not indicted. In 2024 the force's former community-safety chief, arrested for leaking documents to a journalist, said police chief Akiteru Nogawa had tried to conceal officers' crimes; Nogawa denied it. The National Police Agency gave Nogawa only an admonition, and he was moved to another post in November 2024.
