What happened
Public Sénat reported in April 2026 that Paris had suspended 78 after-school (périscolaire) staff since the start of 2026, 31 for suspected sexual violence, and that Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire presented a plan of about 20 million euros; observers noted many measures were already in a 2015 report by the city's Inspection générale that was largely not applied, and Grégoire acknowledged a 'collective error'. In June 2026 franceinfo reported that a council group filed a report with the prosecutor over the city's criminal liability, citing late reporting and staff being moved rather than removed. La Clé Publique reported in September 2026 that the Paris prosecutor opened investigations after three complaints naming Grégoire, former mayor Anne Hidalgo and former deputy Patrick Bloche; the prosecutor has not specified the scope. No official has been found liable. The city says it has reformed its reporting chain.
