Iran jailed photojournalist Yalda Moaiery 15 years for talking to foreign media

CPJ reports Yalda Moaiery was sentenced to 15 years by Tehran's Revolutionary Court in August 2026 for giving interviews to outlets deemed hostile and providing photographs to U.S.-linked organizations; she denies the charges. In July 2026 the Intelligence Ministry published a list of 'hostile' outlets including BBC Persian, warning that providing information could be prosecuted under espionage law. On 27 September 2026 a Tehran court sentenced journalist Abbas Abdi to one year and the newspaper Etemad was suspended for two months over a column; editor Siamak Rahmani was fined over an Instagram post.
