Indonesia's election chiefs flew private jets 59 times on a Rp90bn budget, got a warning
Indonesia's General Elections Commission (KPU) rented private jets for the 2024 general election from a Rp90 billion state-budget line meant for monitoring logistics distribution in remote (3T) regions, with contracts running January to February 2024. On 21 October 2025 the election ethics council (DKPP) found that across 59 trips no route was for logistics distribution, and that the leaders chose 'exclusive and luxurious' jets. It gave KPU chair Mochammad Afifuddin, four commissioners and the secretary-general only a 'strong warning'. A civil-society coalition of Transparency International Indonesia, Themis Indonesia and Trend Asia had asked for all commissioners to be dismissed and reported alleged procurement corruption to the anti-corruption agency KPK in May 2025; KPK said in October 2025 it would study the ruling but the report remained at the public-complaint stage.
Chair Afifuddin said the jets supported fast logistics distribution in a 75-day campaign; on procurement he said 'not my business'.
