What happened
Indonesia's Attorney General's Office charged Pertamina Patra Niaga CEO Riva Siahaan and six other oil-sector executives on February 25, 2025, alleging that from 2018-2023 the state oil company adulterated subsidized RON 90 Pertalite fuel and sold it as premium RON 92 Pertamax, and manipulated crude/fuel import tenders, at an alleged state loss of Rp193.7 trillion (about $11.9-12 billion). The investigation expanded to 18 suspects by July 2025, including fugitive oil trader Mohammad Riza Chalid. On February 27, 2026, the Jakarta anti-corruption court convicted Siahaan and associates, sentencing them to 9-15 years; the defendants have appealed.
