01 · What happened

On 22 October 2025 the Knesset approved in preliminary reading a bill applying Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank (25-24, sponsored by Avi Maoz) and a bill annexing Ma'ale Adumim (32-9, sponsored by Avigdor Liberman), during a visit by US Vice President JD Vance. Prime Minister Netanyahu opposed the move and Likud called the bills an opposition provocation; MK Yuli Edelstein cast the deciding vote and was removed from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. On 24 October coalition chair Ofir Katz said neither bill would be advanced until further notice. Three more readings would be required for either to become law.
