Wyoming Initiative Proposition Number One, a 50% property tax exemption for homeowners' primary residences, is on the Nov 3 ballot

Proposed Initiative Proposition Number One (the People's Initiative to Limit Property Tax in Wyoming through a Homeowner's Property Exemption) was placed on the ballot by citizen petition; its signatures were verified in January 2025, making it Wyoming's first citizen initiative on the ballot since 1996. Per the official ballot language, it would exempt 50% of the assessed value of a qualified homeowner's primary residence from property tax, for owners who have lived in Wyoming at least one year and in the home at least six months of the prior tax year, with an initial sworn claim to the county assessor. The state's fiscal estimate is a revenue decrease of about $92.6 million in FY2028 and $95.9 million in FY2029, not counting effects on local governments; the earliest tax year affected would be 2027. A vote FOR enacts the law; AGAINST rejects it.

A yes vote: FOR: enacts a property tax exemption of 50% of the assessed value of a qualified homeowner's primary residence, with residency and occupancy requirements and an annual eligibility confirmation.

A no vote: AGAINST: the exemption is not enacted; current property tax law continues.
