Measures and recalls
Statewide Amendment 1 was placed on the ballot by the Alabama Legislature through Act 2026-341 (SB 271, Sen. Givhan). According to the state Fair Ballot Commission, if approved, the Constitution would be changed to require an election to fill the office of Lieutenant Governor for the rest of an unexpired term if it becomes vacant more than 60 days before the next general election for state officers; to let the Legislature set the pay of the Lieutenant Governor and legislative officers by joint resolution; and to require legislators' travel expenditures to be approved by an officer elected by that chamber. No costs or taxes. If rejected, the Constitution will not be changed.
Official document ↗Statewide Amendment 2 was placed on the ballot by the Alabama Legislature through Act 2026-378 (HB 380, Rep. Collins). According to the state Fair Ballot Commission, if approved, two or more neighboring county boards of education could agree by resolution to merge into one multi-county school system, after a published State Board of Education impact study; if at least 25% of qualified voters in any affected system file a written protest, the merger would need approval by a majority of voters in each affected county and overall at the next general election. No costs or taxes. If rejected, the Constitution will not be changed.

According to the state Fair Ballot Commission, if approved, each local board of education would have to adopt a policy requiring public K-12 schools to conduct the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of each school day, giving students the opportunity to recite it voluntarily, and a policy allowing student-initiated, student-led prayer; no student could be required to participate, students could opt out based on their beliefs, and reported violations would be reviewed by the local superintendent. No costs or taxes. If rejected, the Constitution will not be changed.

No costs or taxes. If rejected, the Constitution will not be changed.
