Election day
Tuesday, November 3, 2026
Early voting
No early in-person voting; excuse-based absentee voting in person at the town/city clerk's office until the day before the election
Mail ballot
No fixed deadline; apply to the town/city clerk (with photo ID copy, in-person ID or notarized signature) in time to receive and return the ballot
Return by
Must be received by the town/city clerk by 5 p.m. on Nov 3, 2026 (by 5 p.m. Nov 2 if the voter returns it in person)
ID
Photo ID required (driver's license, non-driver ID, NH voting-only ID, U.S. armed services ID, U.S. passport/passcard); student IDs not accepted since June 6, 2026; proof of citizenship required to register

New Hampshire has no online registration, but you can register at the polls on Election Day (same-day registration) or in advance with your town/city clerk or at the supervisors of the checklist's final session before the election (each town sets this date, 6-13 days before Nov 3; e.g., Alton's is Oct 28). New registrants must provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, plus proof of age, identity and domicile. Absentee voting requires a qualifying reason (absence from town on Election Day, disability, religious observance, employment obligation during polling hours, or a qualifying winter storm warning). Apply to your town or city clerk with a copy of photo ID, by presenting photo ID in person, or with a notarized signature; return the ballot so the clerk receives it by 5 p.m. on Nov 3 (voters returning their own ballot in person must do so by 5 p.m. the day before). Polling hours are set locally but every polling place is open at least 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Bring photo ID (driver's license, non-driver ID, NH 'voting identification only' card, U.S. armed services ID, or U.S. passport/passcard; student IDs are no longer accepted). Look up your polling place, registration and absentee status in the Secretary of State's Voter Information Lookup.

Measures and recalls

Every New Hampshire town and city votes Nov 3 on whether to cap school property tax growth (HB 1300 statutory question)

HB 1300 (Chapter 324, Laws of 2026) requires a statutory question on the Nov 3 ballot in every town and city asking whether to limit property tax growth for its school district under RSA 32:5-i. If adopted for a two-year period, the local school property tax levy could not grow beyond the prior year's amount adjusted for inflation and new construction, SAU central office spending could not exceed 6% of total school district appropriations, and bonded capital costs would be excluded from both limits; the limits can be overridden as provided in RSA 32:5-i. Each community's result applies only to its own school district, and adoption requires a three-fifths majority.

A yes vote: The community adopts the RSA 32:5-i limits for its school district for a two-year period (requires a three-fifths vote).

A no vote: The limits are not adopted in that community.

New Hampshire Question 1, a constitutional amendment to eliminate the office of register of probate, is on the Nov 3 ballot

Question 1 (CACR 13) is a constitutional amendment referred by the 2026 General Court (House 325-15, Senate 23-1). It would eliminate the elected county office of register of probate by removing it from Part II, Articles 71 and 81 of the state constitution; county treasurers, county attorneys, sheriffs and registers of deeds would remain elected. A yes vote eliminates the office; a no vote keeps it. Constitutional amendments in New Hampshire need two-thirds of the votes cast on the question to pass.

A yes vote: The elected office of register of probate is removed from the New Hampshire Constitution (requires a two-thirds vote to pass).

A no vote: The register of probate remains an elected county office under the constitution.
