Israel Ministry of Defense

Israeli government ministry responsible for national defense and the Israel Defense Forces.

Agency · Israel · Organization

The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) buys the military's weapons, including US sales such as JDAMs, Hellfires and 2,000-pound bombs, and runs SIBAT, the agency that markets Israeli weapons abroad. It reported record arms export deals of $13.07B in 2023 and over $14.7B in 2024, with Europe taking 54% in 2024 and interceptor systems 48%. It brokered Slovakia's €560M Barak MX deal, Germany's Arrow 3 expansion and Greece's €3B 'Achilles Shield'. It openly sells on the war, saying the Greek deal draws 'on the extensive operational experience Israel's military establishment has gained during the war'. IMOD also buys Big Tech services. Palantir agreed a strategic partnership with it in January 2024 'to help the country's war effort'. Microsoft provides IMOD with Azure cloud and AI services, and in September 2025 cut some subscriptions after finding evidence supporting reports of mass surveillance of Palestinians. Its former minister Yoav Gallant faces an ICC arrest warrant.
