City investigators find San Francisco Sheriff's Department Oversight Board president repeatedly invoked his office to escape traffic and police scrutiny
San Francisco's Office of Inspector General found the president of the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board, William Palmer, responsible for six instances of misconduct spanning 14 ethics-code violations, including repeatedly identifying himself by his oversight title and invoking his relationship with Sheriff Paul Miyamoto during a December traffic stop and a July police encounter to seek 'professional courtesy.' The September 11, 2026 report prompted Supervisor Stephen Sherrill to move for Palmer's removal at the Board of Supervisors, a process requiring an Ethics Commission hearing and nine of eleven supervisor votes. Palmer disputed 'significant factual and legal conclusions' in the report but has not resigned.
