Six Indonesian state rights bodies found indications that police tortured people detained after the 2025 protests, including children.
On 20 April 2026 six Indonesian national human rights institutions, including Komnas HAM, the child protection commission KPAI and the Ombudsman, released a joint fact-finding report on the August-September 2025 protests, based on monitoring in 20 provinces from 27 August 2025 to 27 January 2026. They found mass arrests without clear legal basis or prompt access to lawyers, and 'indications of torture, cruel and inhuman treatment' during detention and questioning, including physical violence and suspected sexual torture of girls by police; they found gross negligence by officers caused one protester's death and that police ignored the disability commission's recommendations.
