Raytheon Rafael Area Protection Systems (R2S)

RTX–Rafael joint venture; Iron Dome interceptors made in Arkansas

Company · United States · Organization

Raytheon Rafael Area Protection Systems, known as R2S, is a joint venture between RTX's Raytheon and Israel's state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems that manufactures Tamir interceptors for Iron Dome and its US variant, SkyHunter, in East Camden, Arkansas. Ground was broken on February 21, 2024, months into the bombardment of Gaza, with Senator John Boozman and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders holding the shovels; the partners said the capital investment would rise from $33M to $63M and create 60 jobs. On November 21, 2025 RTX announced that R2S had won a $1.25B Tamir production contract supporting the Israel Missile Defense Organization's push to accelerate serial production. The plant moves part of Israel's missile shield onto US soil, letting Israel keep firing on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran while US industry replenishes the interceptors it burns through, in the period the UN Commission of Inquiry found Israel committed genocide.
