Malaysia's Pardons Board lets Najib Razak serve rest of sentence under house arrest after High Court found royal 'addendum' was never decided by the board
On 18 September 2026 the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department announced that the King consented to a conditional pardon allowing former prime minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine. In December 2025 the Kuala Lumpur High Court had ruled that a house-arrest addendum had neither been deliberated nor decided by the Pardons Board; Najib withdrew his appeal in April 2026.
