Palantir Technologies

US data-analytics and defense software company; partner of Israel's Ministry of Defense and builder of the Maven system.

Company · United States · Organization

Palantir Technologies, co-founded by CEO Alex Karp and chairman Peter Thiel, sells targeting and surveillance software to armies and police. In January 2024 it agreed a strategic partnership with Israel's Ministry of Defense 'in support of war-related missions'. Al Jazeera reports its software 'integrates intercepted communications, satellite imagery and other datasets to help generate military targeting lists for Israeli forces', and UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese found reasonable grounds to believe it supplied Israel with predictive policing technology and its AI Platform. Karp's answer to the charge that Palantir kills Palestinians: 'mostly terrorists, that's true.' Its Maven Smart System, with a contract ceiling of nearly $1.3B, became the Pentagon's main targeting platform for the war on Iran; Bloomberg found Maven recommended the Minab school as a day-one target. Business is excellent: Q2 2026 revenue was $1.94B, up 93%, and its 2026 forecast is about $8.15B.

Partner in 'war-related missions'

Palantir opened its first Israeli office in 2015. In January 2024 Alex Karp and Peter Thiel held its board meeting in Tel Aviv 'in solidarity with Israel' and agreed a strategic partnership with the Israel Ministry of Defense to 'harness Palantir's advanced technology in support of war-related missions.'

Al Jazeera reported that Palantir actively recruited Unit 8200 veterans and that its software 'integrates intercepted communications, satellite imagery and other datasets to help generate military targeting lists for Israeli forces.' UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese found 'reasonable grounds to believe' it provided predictive policing technology and its AI Platform for 'automated decision-making' on the battlefield.

Maven and the Minab school

Palantir's Maven Smart System started as a $480M Pentagon contract in 2024; the ceiling rose to nearly $1.3B in 2025 and in March 2026 the Pentagon made it a program of record, already 'the primary AI operating system' for U.S. strikes on Iran, Reuters reported.

Claude was embedded in Palantir's Maven Smart System during the 2026 Iran campaign and was reported by the Washington Post to support target generation and prioritization. Bloomberg's investigation found that Maven played a specific role in the Minab targeting chain and that overreliance on the system contributed to the strike. No public evidence currently establishes that Claude itself selected, recommended or processed the Minab school target.

Bloomberg found the Minab school, wrongly catalogued as a Revolutionary Guard site, was fed into Maven and came out as a recommended day-one target; the strike killed more than 150 people, at least 123 of them children. Palantir said it 'is not responsible for the underlying data nor identifying intelligence deficiencies.'
