Thai courts and prosecutors failed to bring any Tak Bai massacre defendant to trial before the 20-year limitation period expired in October 2024

On 25 October 2004, 78 detainees suffocated in army trucks after a protest in Tak Bai, Narathiwat. In August 2024 the Narathiwat Provincial Court found enough evidence to prosecute seven former senior officials, and on 18 September 2024 the Attorney General ordered prosecution of eight more suspects, 14 in total.
