Former Charlotte City Council member Tiawana Brown pleads guilty to wire fraud over $124,000 in fraudulent COVID-relief PPP loans, sentencing set for Sept. 23, 2026

Tiawana Brown, who represented Charlotte City Council District 3 from November 2023 until her defeat in the September 2025 Democratic primary, was indicted in May 2025 alongside her two adult daughters on wire fraud charges for allegedly fraudulently obtaining roughly $124,000 in COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program loans in 2021. She agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud in a federal court filing dated January 29, 2026.
