Swedish Radio investigation finds ministers holding stock in companies affected by their own government decisions rarely declared conflicts of interest; Constitutional Committee criticizes several
An investigation by Sveriges Radio's Ekot news desk found that of nine cabinet ministers holding shares during the current mandate period, almost none declared a conflict of interest (jäv) when participating in decisions affecting those companies or sectors — including three ministers holding bank shares who took part in a decision on a new bank tax. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard bought shares in a company while a defense-related government matter was being negotiated and then took part in a related government decision; she sold the shares in March 2025 after the reporting.
