A Fulton County judge ruled the Atlanta Police Foundation illegally withheld nearly two years' worth of 'Cop City' training-center records and ordered their release, rejecting the foundation's claim it was exempt from the state Open Records Act
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jane Barwick ruled on June 2, 2025 in favor of the Atlanta Community Press Collective and Lucy Parsons Labs, who sued in 2024 after the Atlanta Police Foundation failed to produce records requested since 2023 about the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, including board materials, budgets, contracts, and emails with the Georgia Attorney General's office. Barwick ordered the foundation to release 15 unredacted documents within 30 days, declining to award attorney's fees because she found the foundation's leadership genuinely believed the nonprofit was exempt from disclosure rather than knowingly violating the law.
