Yoav Gallant

Former military minister of Israel (to Nov 2024); ICC arrest-warrant subject

Former Minister of Defense of Israel (until November 2024) · Person

Yoav Gallant was Israel's military minister when the Gaza genocide began. He ran its war machine for 13 months, until Benjamin Netanyahu fired him in November 2024. On 9 October 2023 he announced "a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly." On 21 November 2024 the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest. Its judges found reasonable grounds to believe that, from at least 8 October 2023 to at least 20 May 2024, he bore responsibility for the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and for the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts. In September 2025 the UN Commission of Inquiry found that he, Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog had incited genocide. He left the Knesset on 1 January 2025. No government has sanctioned him, and Amnesty International is asking the UK to. While in office, a minister earned NIS 58,274 a month.
