Former Chengdu Mayor Wang Fengchao Expelled from Party and Public Office Over 'Vanity Projects' and Bribery

The CCDI announced on November 26, 2025 that it was investigating Chengdu's deputy party secretary and mayor, Wang Fengchao, for suspected serious violations of discipline and law. On June 5, 2026, the CCDI announced Wang's formal expulsion from the Communist Party and removal from public office ('shuang kai'), finding he pursued 'image' and 'performance' projects for career advancement, violated austerity rules, accepted gifts and bribes, traded favors in cadre appointments, and engaged in dereliction of duty.
