Supreme Court orders fresh investigation into 2012 Sowjanya rape-murder after finding the CBI probe 'failed to inspire confidence'

Sowjanya, a 17-year-old student, was raped and murdered near Dharmasthala, Karnataka, in October 2012. The Karnataka CID and then the CBI investigated; a CBI special court acquitted the sole accused, Santosh Rao, in June 2023, noting shortcomings in the investigation.
