Washington's trafficking-awareness laws and posters pointed victims to a help line the state had disconnected, and its required poster went unrevised for a decade.
A September 1, 2026 performance audit by the Washington State Auditor (report 1040224) of five state agencies found the Department of Commerce's Office of Crime Victims Advocacy disconnected a crime-victim phone line in 2024, but the number was still listed in several state laws and on two Department of Labor & Industries posters, including the one required in adult entertainment venues; in a July 2026 response the agencies said the number had been removed from updated versions of those posters. Commerce created a legally required model trafficking poster in 2016 and never updated it despite a duty to review it annually, and staff said they had not given awareness information to medical, mental health and social work groups in several years.
