UN oversight office finds evidence for 9 of 19 UNRWA staff allegations from Israel could not be authenticated or did not support involvement; a US watchdog later criticised the probe
After Israel alleged UNRWA staff took part in the 7 October 2023 attacks, the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) reported in August 2024 on 19 staff: in nine cases evidence indicated possible involvement and those contracts were terminated, in nine the evidence was insufficient, and in one no evidence was obtained. OIOS said it could not independently authenticate most of the Israeli-held material.
