South Korean police officer closed Jeju missing-person case without contacting the woman, who was later found dead; 298 of his cases under review

Jang Mi-ran, 37, went missing on Jeju Island on 12 May 2026 and was found dead 104 days later. According to the Korea Times, a police officer handling missing-person cases falsely claimed he had been in contact with her and closed the case prematurely; investigators found there had been no phone contact.
