Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon's cloud arm; 'endless storage' for Israeli military intelligence

Company · United States · Organization

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing division of Amazon. Its revenue counts as Amazon's revenue, and its profits go to Amazon's shareholders, Jeff Bezos chief among them. With Google Cloud, AWS won Project Nimbus in 2021, Israel's $1.2B government cloud contract covering the Israeli military. In Aug 2024 +972 Magazine and Local Call reported that AWS supplies Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate with a server farm for intelligence, described by a source as 'endless storage'. Leaked Nimbus terms reported by the Guardian, +972 and Local Call in Oct 2025 bar AWS and Google from suspending Israel's access even when its conduct breaks their policies; the customer, in other words, cannot be fired. AWS opened a Tel Aviv region in July 2023 and plans to invest $7.2B in Israel through 2037. Since Nov 2024 it has hosted Anthropic's Claude for U.S. intelligence and military agencies through Palantir. AWS segment sales were $42.2B in Q2 2026, up 37%.
