155mm automatic self-propelled howitzer (Elbit Systems)
Weapon system · Israel · Weapon system
Ro'em is Elbit Systems' new automatic 155mm self-propelled howitzer, which Elbit began developing in 2019. Breaking Defense reported in April 2026 that the Israeli army carried out the first operational firing of Ro'em during operations in Lebanon, in support of forces maneuvering in the north, to attack what it called Hezbollah targets. Its combat debut came during Israel's war on Lebanon, in which the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health counts 8,953 people killed and 30,649 wounded since 8 October 2023, as of 25 September 2026, and during the destruction of South Lebanon's border villages. For Elbit, battlefield use is a sales argument: the UN Special Rapporteur's July 2025 report describes how Israeli weapons are marketed abroad as 'battle-proven'. Ro'em joins Elbit's PULS launcher as artillery first used on Lebanon and then offered for export.
