GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb

250-lb guided glide bomb (Boeing)

Weapon system · United States · Weapon system

The GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bomb is a 250-pound guided glide bomb made by Boeing, the prime contractor named by the US Air Force; its unit cost was about $40,000 in FY2021. It became one of Israel's most-used bombs against shelters and schools in Gaza. CNN found a GBU-39 tail at the 26 May 2024 strike on the Kuwait Peace Camp in Rafah, where at least 45 displaced people were killed in the fire that followed. Pentagon officials told NPR a GBU-39 was used on the UN school in Nuseirat on 6 June 2024, killing at least 32 people, including seven children. CNN also linked it to the August 2024 al-Tabaeen school strike, and Bellingcat found GBU-39s in the July 2024 Khadija school strike and in a September 2025 strike that reportedly killed at least six others. The February 2025 US package added 2,166 more GBU-39s for Israel.
