Missile and rocket interceptor system
Weapon system · Israel · Weapon system
David's Sling is Israel's middle interceptor layer. It intercepts ballistic missiles fired from 100–200 km away as well as heavy rockets, aircraft, drones and cruise missiles, using the Stunner interceptor. It is made jointly by state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the US firm RTX. It was first used in combat on 10 May 2023, intercepting a heavy rocket fired from Gaza during Israel's "Shield and Arrow" bombing campaign. Reuters has since shown it in action against rockets fired from Lebanon. US taxpayers fund it directly: the April 2024 Israel supplemental gave $4B to replenish Iron Dome and David's Sling. Exports turn that combat use into sales. Finland signed for it in November 2023 (about €317M) and Greece included it in the €3B "Achilles Shield" deal of 31 August 2026. Israel's Ministry of Defense said that deal drew "on the extensive operational experience Israel's military establishment has gained during the war".
