BAE Systems

Arms maker; builds the rear fuselage of every F-35, Israel's included

Company · United Kingdom · Organization

BAE Systems is Britain's largest arms manufacturer and Lockheed Martin's main F-35 partner. It holds a 13–15% workshare in each jet and builds the rear fuselage of every F-35 in the world, Israel's included. When the UK suspended 30 of 350 arms export licences to Israel in Sept 2024, F-35 components were exempted. On June 30, 2025 the High Court threw out a challenge by Al-Haq, which called the exemption a deliberate loophole, ruling the issue was one for ministers. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese says the F-35s BAE helps build were integral to Israel dropping an estimated 85,000 tons of bombs on Gaza; they also struck Iran in 2025 and 2026. The loophole paid well. BAE's sales rose from £25.3B in 2023 to £30.7B in 2025, then £15.8B in H1 2026, and it made about £7.2B in profit from 2023 to H1 2026, with an £84.0B backlog at mid-2026. Capital Group (11.04%, Jan 2026) and BlackRock (9.52%, July 2026) are its largest holders.
